ST. JOHNSBURY POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

CASE#: 21SJ000058/59/70 UPDATE #1
OFFICER: Gerrish
CONTACT#: (802)748-2314

DATE/TIME: 01/08/2021
VIOLATION: Fentanyl Trafficking, Identity Theft, Accessory After the Fact, False Reports to Law Enforcement, Possession of a Depressant/Stimulant/Narcotic

ACCUSED: Cindy M. Crooks (33)
CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: West Burke, VT

VICTIM: Casey Durfee (30)
CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Lyndonville, VT

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

On January 8, 2021, a vehicle was stopped on Portland Street that was found to be operated by Cindy Crooks (33). During the interaction with St. Johnsbury Police, Crooks attempted to pass off the front seat passenger in the vehicle as Casey Durfee (30), to deflect the investigation away from the fact that the person was actually Kevin Reynolds, who had an active felony warrant (Reynolds was arrested roadside that night by Ofc. Guyer). The vehicle was seized and a search warrant obtained from the Honorable Court. The vehicle was later searched pursuant to the warrant and found to contain (among other seized items), several wax paper baggies – one of which was field tested and found to be presumptively positive for the chemical properties of fentanyl. On February 15, 2021, Crooks was contacted and she subsequently reported to the police station for arrest/citation. Crooks was cited for the above crimes. She was released on a citation for Caledonia Superior Court for April 19, 2021 @ 1000 hours. The investigation is ongoing.
