GHSP Holiday DUI Campaign Results

ST. JOHNSBURY POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE

The St. Johnsbury Police Department, participated in the Governor’s Highway Safety Programs Holiday DUI Campaign which ran from December 14th 2018 – January 1st 2019. During this time 59 vehicles were contacted, 19 traffic tickets were issued. 3 operators were arrest for operating after criminal suspension, 1 operator was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and a passenger was arrested for Impeding Police and Disorderly Conduct. 1 arrest was made for possession of a controlled substance and the operator of that vehicle was ticketed for possessing an open container of marijuana, and operating after civil suspension. During this same time The St. Johnsbury Police Department responded to 3 reportable accidents, none of these accidents had injuries and none were due to impaired or distracted driving.

On 12/28/2018 at approximately 2300 hours, St. Johnsbury Police were dispatched to a report of an intoxicated driver leaving a parking lot on Eastern Avenue. The suspect vehicle was located turning onto to Portland Street at the intersection of Railroad. A motor vehicle stop was conducted and the operator of that vehicle Gerald Williams was taken into custody on suspicion of Driving under the influence. The passenger of that vehicle <EXPUNGED> was also taken into custody for interfering with a police investigation and striking Sgt. Aaron Rivard in the hand while he was attempting to speak with her about being disorderly during the time Williams was performing field sobriety tests. Williams was released with a citation to appear in Caledonia Court for DUI 1 Criminal Refusal and <EXPUNGED> was issued a citation for Aggravated Disorderly Conduct and Impeding Public Officers.

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:  Officers responded during the early morning hours to two separate noise complaints on Summer Street in St Johnsbury.  During the first interaction the pair were advised that any continuation would result in the pair being charged.  Officers were again called to the residence around 0400 hours.  Charles Nestor, 48 Of St Johnsbury and Heather Smith, 40 of St Johnsbury were cited for Disorderly conduct after the pair continued screaming and slamming doors in their apartment.  The pair are cited to appear on February 11, 2019 to answer the charge.
